The Baxter Water Department tallied a perfect score on a survey performed by the Tennessee Department of Environmental and Conservation.
Baxter Mayor Danny Holmes told Aldermen Thursday that TDEC performed a surprise visit December 4 to audit records and perform a sanitary inspection at the water plant. Holmes said he is pleased with the Water Department for their great accomplishment.
“I’ll tell you it’s great news,” Holmes said. “You know, we are very fortunate to have the employees we have here in Baxter and Mr. John Ramsey our Public Works Director gets a perfect score of 421 out of 421. That’s amazing right there.”
Holmes said he received a letter from TDEC expressing how impressed they were with the town’s water plant and the department’s recordkeeping. Holmes said it is good to know that the Water Department is meeting expectations.
“It was an audit basically,” Holmes said. “So it came from the State of Tennessee, they came up and went through the records and found we are doing what we are supposed to be doing.”
In other business, Baxter Fire Chief Matt White honored several firefighters for their service. John Mullin was awarded 2024 Firefighter of the Year while Elijah Doughty was awarded 2024 Volunteer Firefighter of the Year.
Baxter Fire Captain Adam Brown announced he is stepping away after 17 years of service with the Baxter Fire Department. Brown said he is leaving for personal reasons. Brown said he is grateful to have served Baxter.
“Baxter has made me a better person and a better fireman,” Brown said. “It has been an excellent opportunity for me to have a job that was never a job but something that I could come in here and enjoy and help take care of my family.”
The Fire Department awarded Brown with a plaque thanking him for his service and gave Brown his firefighter hat and badge to take home.
