Baxter Primary Gym Getting New HVAC Through ESSER

The Baxter Primary Gymnasium is getting a new HVAC unit now that the current air conditioner has run its course.

Deputy School Director Tim Martin said the current unit did not offer heat, which was supplemented with hanging gas heaters. Martin said this was a great opportunity to use ESSER funding to replace a nearly 20 year old piece of equipment.

“It’s been a blessing, it’s been a lot of work for us but it’s allowed us to move forward,” Martin said. “With a lot of our maintenance things that we’ve had on the list for a while but haven’t had the money to complete.”

Martin said the unit being replaced was actually donated, saying the unit was old when the system first got it. Martin said the hopeful timeline is to have the new unit in and installed within 10 to 12 weeks.

The Putnam County School Board approved the bid on this project for a base amount of $74,850.
