Baxter Police Prepped for Traffic, Busy Night at Upperman

Baxter Police are prepared for heavy traffic near Upperman High School Friday evening as the football team takes on Alcoa.

Chief Danny Holmes encourages those attending the game to get there early as nearly 1,000 people from Alcoa are expected to attend the game.

“I’m not real sure where all them people are going to go, but we’re just hoping everything is calm that night,” Holmes says. “We’re looking for Upperman to win, but we’ll just do what we can do.”

Holmes says Friday night’s crowd could be as large, if not larger than, events such as the yearly harvest festival or Christmas parade.

“As far as Baxter’s concerned, we probably will have 10 police officers representing the Baxter Police Department and I expect the Sheriff’s department to have 10 to 15,” Holmes says. “This will probably be the biggest thing to happen in the city of Baxter and we’re looking forward to it.”

The game between Upperman and Alcoa will kick-off beginning at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the state championship in Cookeville for the 10th annual BlueCross Bowl hosted by Tennessee Tech.
