Baxter Planning Commission Raise Questions About Love’s Truck Wash

Baxter’s Planning Commission wants the dirt on a proposed tractor trailer wash set to be added to the Love’s Truck Stop facility at I-40.

The commission expressed concerns Thursday night about a new slow-truck turn lane that would need to be added to city-owned Fast Lane. Codes Director Bob Lane said the road could not handle the wear and tear this would create.

Mayor John Martin said the city had already spent $300,000 on Fast Lane to help the road support the original truck entrance.

“There’s no way we should have to spend more money out there on Fast Lane when they’re the ones creating all this issue,” Martin said.

A representative from the company did not attend the Thursday night meeting. The Planning Commission voted to table the project. There was also concern over where the water run-off would go from the truck wash as well as what would be being washed into the city water system.

“It’s not clear from just the plans at this point in my review, regarding the truck wash filtration system, with regards to rejecting back to the sewer system, the quantity of those flows, the quality of those flows, and the type of water consumption,” City Engineer Tom Bennett said. “So we need to get some answers regarding that.”

According to the plan, Love’s plans to tear down a tire shop and replace it with the new truck wash.

The commission also approved allowing the board chairman to sign off on subdivision site plans in the absence of the secretary.
