Baxter Police Department getting four new vehicles with the help of grant funding.
Chief Danny Holmes said the grant was made possible with the guidance of the UCDD, and comes at no cost to the taxpayers.
“Anytime you have vehicles they wear out, they get a lot of miles on them,” Holmes said. “We’ve got about four cars with over 100,000 miles on them and repair bills are horrific so it was just dime-ing us to death. We just lucked up.”
Holmes said the grant works as a reimbursement from the state. Because of this, he said the plan is to purchase two vehicles at a time and get reimbursed in between.
Holmes said the department was able to get the vehicles at a good time while there were some in stock. He said that means they will not have a long lead time on the patrol cars, and they expect them by January 2023.
“We’re buying four patrol cars fully equipped,” “And we’re actually updating our tasers as well. So that’s what the grant was for, and we’re really excited.”
