A new officer was hired by Baxter’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen Tuesday night.
Officer Ryan Bean was sworn in as the newest officer of BPD and welcomed by Chief Danny Holmes.
“The Baxter Police Department seems like we’re always going through people, and I don’t know the reason for that,” Holmes said. “But I have a young man here today that I am so proud of to be on the Baxter Police Department.”
Bean was formerly a deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
Officer Steve Page of BPD announced his resignation from the force during the meeting to focus on his campaign for White County’s sheriff position.
“I want ot say thank you to everybody here,” Page said. “You guys are great. I’ve made some great friends here, some lifetime friends.”
Page was appreciative to Chief Holmes and the rest of BPD for his time spent with the department.
“I’ve been very honored and very proud to be a part of this department, I really have,” Page said. “Danny has really took care of me and treated me like somebody.”
Page announced his decision to run for White County Sheriff in October. He said during the meeting he is projected to win.
Richard Bullard and Cris Austin were promoted within the department. Bullard, who has been with BPD since January 2017, was promoted to sergeant. Austin, who has been in Baxter for 8 years, was promoted to lieutenant.
