Baxter FD Hosting CPR And Basic Life Support Training Saturday

Baxter Fire Department to host a CPR and Basic Life Support Provider training this Saturday.

Chief Matthew White said they try to host these educational classes once or twice a year. He said it is the goal of the department to provide as many safety resources to the community as possible.

“We want them to be well-trained in CPR in case they have an emergency happen to them,” White said. “And of course, there are some recent events that took place across the area which have caused people to be more aware of the need for CPR and to take care of your family.”

White said the training from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. will serve as a “Friends and Family” CPR training. He said it will be a less formal process, hoping to provide basic life-saving skills in the event of an emergency.

White said the Basic Life Support training is geared toward medical professionals. He said this training provides an opportunity for those individuals to renew their BLS licenses and brush up on these abilities.

“We never know who might be affected by it or who might be the victim of a sudden heart attack or cardiac arrest,” White said. “And the more people we have trained the better. We know you only have a few moments from the time that the event happens before you have to start doing CPR to have a good chance of survival, and the faster and the more people we can train to do that, the better outcome it is for the patient.”
