Baxter Concerned About Fast Lane Damage

Baxter officials concerned about the damage being done to the pavement along Fast Lane off 1st Avenue South.

Building Inspector and Codes Officer Bob Lane said the road is getting torn up by semi-trucks going in and out of the Love’s Truck Stop. Lane said he spoke with the company and asked if they would pour a concrete apron there to repair the damage.

“Love’s said they didn’t really see a need,” Lane said. “I said, ‘Well it’s because you ain’t paying for the road. It’s not an issue with you but it’s becoming a real issue in the city.’ We would really like to set a meeting, and I’ve got a meeting asking them to set a meeting.”

Lane said the city has already spent a lot of time and money trying to keep the road fixed. He said Love’s is currently working to expand its tire store which would bring even more trucks to the station.

“It’s actually going to be a service thing where they go to service those trucks too,” Lane said. “So you’re going to have a lot more traffic in there.”

Lane said he is working with their engineers so they can also attend the upcoming meeting with the company. Lane said if Love’s refuses to help the city with Fast Lane they should consider prohibiting Love’s from expanding the tire store.

“They’re creating the problem, so therefore they’re obligated to fix it,” Lane said.
