The ground breaking for the Baxter Crossroads subdivision at the intersection of Highway 56 and Highway 70 took place Tuesday morning .
Putnam County and Baxter elected officials gathered for the celebration of the new 80 lot neighborhood. D.R. Horton Nashville President Danny Clawson said the homes are affordable and designed for families.
“It is going to be a good community right here close to everything,” Clawson said. “Close to the school. Close to the highway. So, you are going to be close to the new jobs coming in here. Plus, you are going to get a good, well built home at a good, fair price.”
The average cost of the ranch style homes is in the $200,000 range. Clawson said families will have options to build three to five bedroom homes on 50 foot lots. J. Cumby Construction is expected to complete the grade work by May, 2021. Clawson said home building will begin soon after.
“As soon as he is ready we are ready,” Clawson said. “We are here. We got trade base about wrapped up, so we are ready when he is ready.”
D.R. Horton will build its express product, which is an entry level home. Land Acquisition Manager Patrick Pitts said he worked with J. Cumby Construction to maintain the tree line in the backyards during grading.
“I think people will be proud to live here,” Pitts said. “It is not terrible fall from Nashville or Lebanon. We think Cookeville is a strong market in its own right with major employers expanding and Tennessee Tech. We think we will do great here, and we hope to have more projects after this one.”
J. Cumby Construction President Justin Cumby, said his company will prepare the lots to be sold by D.R. Horton and pave the roads. The name for the subdivision could change on completion.
