Baxter City Council approved a motion to bid out a water and sewer extension to Portobello contingent on federal approval.
City Engineer Tom Bennett said that it will bring a brand new water line and sewer line to the Portobello headquarters.
“That project was funded a good long time ago by the EDA,” Bennett said. “And so we’re in the process of getting the federal approvals for that project because they financed it. So once they approve that, the city is going to want to bid that out as soon as possible.”
Bennett said that the work will also aid in Baxter’s sewer issues as well. He said that he estimates the extension project to total some $1.8 million.
Bennett said that while it’s a waiting game right now, he is hoping for the EDA approval within the next week or so.
