Basketball District Play Heats Up Friday

The Upper Cumberland continues to deal with icy roads, competitive finishes, and tight district races as the calendar gets closer to tournament play this February.

In Friday night’s girls action, Upperman faces off with Cumberland County. The Lady Bees suffered their first loss in district play Tuesday night. The loss also marked their first home loss since February 5. Cumberland County currently sits at 3-1 in the district, tied with Upperman for second in district play. Like the Lady Bees, the Lady Jets only loss also came at the hands of White County on January 17. 

York heads to Smith County having won nine of their last eleven games, with their only two losses occurring by fewer than five points. Smith County stands 15-5.

Cookeville faces Lebanon. Both teams stand undefeated in district play. The Lady Cavaliers boast eight straight wins, while Lebanon enters with a six-game win streak.

Van Buren travels to face South Pittsburgh. The Lady Eagles head back on the road after their Tuesday home game against Grundy County ended up postponed. They face 3-3 South Pittsburgh.

Jackson County hosts Watertown. The Lady Devils seek to become 2-0 at home in district play.  Watertown travels with a record of 15-4.

Clarkrange faces Gordonsville.  Clarkrange defeated Gordonsville in their first meeting on January 7th.  However, the Lady Buffaloes have lost their last two games.  Gordonsville enters tonight 8-9 and 2-2 in the district.

DeKalb County battles Stone Memorial. Both teams look to break five game losing streaks and are seeking their first win of the calendar year.

Clay County hosts Red Boiling Springs. Clay heads back home after a double overtime loss to Gordonsville on the road Tuesday night. Red Boiling Springs stands 4-14.

Monterey begins a three-game home stand, with FC Boys. The Wildcats hope to break an eight-game losing streak. FC Boyd enters 13-9.

Warren County heads on the road to face Columbia. The Lady Pioneers finished 0-2 in their recent home stand. Warren defeated Columbia January 9.

On the boys side, Jackson County stands undefeated in district play at 3-0 this season. They face a Watertown team that has lost its last three games.

The Clarkrange Buffaloes seek to bounce back to .500 in district play this season as they face off against the Gordonsville Tigers. Clarkrange will look to defeat a Gordonsville team they have not defeated since February 6, 2019. The Tigers have won three of their last four.

York seeks their first win of the season against Smith County. Smith County enters play at 8-12.

DeKalb County aims for its first win in district play as the Tigers face Stone Memorial. The Panthers have won their last three games.

Van Buren travels to 4-4 South Pittsburgh. The Eagles have won two straight.

Upperman battles Cumberland County. Ty Cobb scored 42 points in the win over White County Tuesday. Cumberland County has won six of its last nine, after starting 0-11.

Cookeville stays home to face Lebanon. Cookeville lost another close matchup to Lavergne Tuesday night, 55-54, marking their fourth straight game decided by three points or less. Lebanon enters Friday night’s game 7-12 and 0-3 in the district.

Monterey welcomes FC Boyd, the Wildcats’ first game in a week. FC Boyd enters play winless on the season at 0-9.

Warren County faces Columbia Central. 

Clay County battles Red Boiling Springs. Clay lost a close matchup to Gordonsville Tuesday night, 68-63. Red Boiling Springs enters 0-14.
