Fairfield Glade Police are investigating after a person tried shooting a deer from the inside of a pickup truck Sunday.
Police Chief Mike Williams said witnesses reported the incident after the suspect began shooting with a high-powered rifle near the 7000 block of Peavine Road.
“Several people were at the local dog park and reported hearing gunshots and bullets whizzing over their heads,” Williams said. “They heard another gunshot and one of the bullets hit a bench they were sitting on.”
Williams said the suspect faces a felony charge of reckless endangerment.
“Of course, working with the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, they could face a host of other charges, including unlawful hunting from a roadway,” Williams said.
Williams said none of the park visitors suffered injuries.
“This was the best case scenario where no one was injured or hurt, but it’s still a very scary situation,” Williams said. “Anytime anyone unlawfully shoots an animal from a public roadway, especially in an urban area where this gentleman shot yesterday, it’s extremely dangerous.”
Williams said witnesses reported seeing a dark colored Dodge pickup drive away from the area.
