Fingerprints have helped investigators identify a body found in Smithville Monday.
DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray on Tuesday identified the woman as 28-year-old Jessica Renee Stephens of Cannon County. Her body located Monday morning lying in the backyard of a home on Parkway Drive. Ray said Stephens was identified through her fingerprints.
Ray said her cause of death will be determined following the completion of an autopsy and toxicology report.
According to a press release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Stephens was wearing maroon medical scrubs and brown boots when she was located. There was also an orange Home Depot jersey, brown jacket, and blue shirt at the scene.
The case remains under investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
