If you’re looking for a way to celebrate your superhero dad, the Art Jam has an event for you Sunday.
Mountain Top Comics and Collectables owner Michael Hargis said children and parents will be able to paint their favorite superheroes at the Art Jam studio.
“I think it’s important that kids look to their parents as role models, and this is one way of doing that,” Hargis said. “And it gives them a chance to spend some time doing something that maybe they haven’t done before, you know, it’s a new experience for them.”
Hargus said a lot of fathers shop at their store with their children and wanted to do something fun to honor them.
Hargis said they chose superheroes because children often look up to their parents as their heroes.
“I think most dads are superheroes in a sense,” Hargis said. “There always there for their kids and kids look up to them. So it’s a chance to celebrate fathers in a way that maybe they don’t get celebrated.”
Hargis said fathers Day is especially important to him because he often sees fathers and sons bonding together over the characters in the store. He said it is important to him that people realize that those in their everyday lives such as their parents are just as inspiring.
“I think it’s important that we look to our people around us to emulate,” Hargis said. “Rather than actors or athletes, and people that are in circumstances that we could never understand.”
The event will be at 111 West 1st Street in Cookeville at 2 pm Sunday.
