The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators has recognized the efforts of an Upper Cumberland boating officer.
Dustin Buttram of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) received the organization’s honor of Boating Officer of the Year.
Buttram covers the TWRA’s 31st District including Center Hill, Cordell Hull, Great Falls, and Dale Hollow reservoirs along with Caney Fork River.
A press release from the TWRA states Buttram has led the agency’s efforts in promoting boating safety across the region, teaching 20 safety classes and awarding certifications to 207 students.
Buttram has also implemented a Boating Under the Influence (BUI) simulator he designed himself into teaching area residents about the dangers of excessive drinking while boating.
Buttram has served in his current position since 2014 after working as a wildlife officer in the Nashville officer for three years.
