An Additional 300 Childcare Spots Coming To The UC Through Grant Projects

Three hundred childcare slots and over 50 jobs will open thanks to a state grant program benefiting seven Upper Cumberland counties.

Lending and Economic Development Director Megan Choate said the additional childcare space comes from nine projects that received state funding.

“This is the first year that they have allowed a change in their community development block grant funds to be used for childcare,” Choate said. “They got additional funds through coronavirus and so we have been working around the region for the past several months.”

Choate said the majority of contracts to begin work have been issued. Choate said a total of one million dollars of improvements will be made to the existing childcare facilities that were selected.

Choate said the goal is for the projects to be completed sometime next year.
