American Red Cross Trying To Build Membership Of White Co Disaster Team

The American Red Cross hosting a volunteer expo in White County Tuesday to help build participation in its recently formed Disaster Action Team.

Event Organizer Brooke Luna said the group was established in July but still only has three members.

‘There’s going to be several volunteers throughout the Upper Cumberland there, and then also our regional director,” Luna said. “They are going to be sharing what they do. They can meet their local disaster team and find out impactful ways that they can serve.”

The event runs from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the White County Board of Education. Luna said the disaster action team’s main job is to assist families in times of tragedy or natural disaster.

Luna said you do not have to dedicate that much time to become a team member. Luna said to join, you complete a brief response training.
