Allardt To Receive New Fire Truck Next Week

Allardt’s new fire truck will roll into town next week.

Allardt Volunteer Fire Department Chief Larry Cooper said he will be traveling to Georgia Tuesday morning to pick up the 2018 Kenworth pumper truck.

“We are really excited to get this truck and put it into service to protect the people of the Allardt area and Fentress County,” Cooper said. “It’s going to be a great asset to our fire department.”

“It’s not only a big deal for our fire department, but it’s a pretty good deal for Fentress County in general,” “We have a lot of rural areas that don’t have a lot of water. This tanker is going to be vital to getting water to parts of Fentress County that desperately need it.”

The town received the new truck through the state’s Community Development Block Grant program. The grant totaled $223,000 and Allardt paid about $28,000 as a match towards the grant.

Cooper said the department would not have been able to purchase the new truck without assistance through the CDBG grant program.

“We don’t have funds like that,” Cooper said. “If it wasn’t for something like this or the grants through the federal government, a lot of rural departments and counties would suffer and not be able to do something like this.”

Cooper said the department plans to show off the truck to the public during the annual Allardt Pumpkin Festival in October
