The Putnam County Library System will close all four branches at the end of business Friday.
“It was one of the hardest decisions that we have made,” Library System President Phil Schaller said. “It’s a recommendation we made following American Library Association guidelines.”
Staff will be available via phone to help citizens use the library’s online offerings and resources. Staff will also provide curbsite checkout.
“We had to weigh the difference between our mission statement to serve the population and the health risks involved to staff and to patrons,” Schaller said. “That was very hard.
The system will attempt to reopen April 6 with a reassessment set for April 3. All public meeting spaces will also be closed.
