Algood officials are excited about the benefits that the fire hall expansion project will bring.
City Administrator Keith Morrison said the expansion will allow the town to purchase needed equipment and more engines, which should help lower Algood’s ISO rating.
The ISO rating directly correlates with the price of homeowners insurance.
“Our need for equipment has grown over the years, and so to keep our ISO score we will need some additional equipment,” Morrison said. “And sometime in the future we anticipate some growth to possibly having some full-time firefighters in there.”
Morrison said the plan is to move the EMS service into the old section of the fire hall and adding the firefighter quarters into the new section.
“It will give the EMS a place to have a second ambulance and to house a 24-hour ambulance service here,” Morrison said.
Construction on the expansion should begin within the next few weeks. The entire project should take between eight and ten months to complete.
