Dale Armour gave his final report to the Algood City Council Tuesday night and handed over his badge to new Chief Tim Terry.
Armour submitted his resignation in July to take the position as Nolensville Police Chief. He will begin this role on Monday. Armour said the decision was strictly personal as it allows him to move closer to family.
“Out of 40 something years in law enforcement, it was probably some of the best times of my career; uh, some of the challenging times of my career, but it was, uh, something that I enjoyed. I enjoyed daily going in and doing what we needed to do to protect the citizens and move the department forward,” Armour said.
Armour spent some six and a half years with Algood. Armour has more than 40 years’ experience in law enforcement. Armour said he was proud of being able to modernize Algood Police department in his time there.
“I listen to people, see what’s going on, whether they’ve been there one day or they’ve been there twenty, I want to hear what they’ve got to say as far as what we can do to improve the department,” Armour said. “And if there’s something we can do, I wanted to do that.”
Armour said that with the council’s support he got more in-house officer training, began hiring more experienced officers, and got some better equipment and brought in things to make seniors more aware of fraud and how to stop it.
Armour said he looks forward to seeing Terry move the department forward. Armour said Terry came to the department after retiring from the City of Cookeville and that he is well liked by both the officers and the public.
“I was tickled to death last night, uh, when they moved it from an interim position to a permanent position…Tim Terry is a solid individual,” Armour said.
Armour said he wanted to thank the citizens and community of Algood.
“The community itself and the citizens of Algood we’re very supportive of me and the police department,” Armour said. “Anytime there was an issue, it was always handled, I think professionally. I really think it was a good mesh of their working with us and us working the public.”
