Algood To Explore Alternatives To Wall Street Closure

Algood will explore other options for a proposed Wall Street closure to make sure all alternatives are explored.

City Manager Keith Morrison said the closure was postponed by the city council. He said the council wanted to gather more data and provide time for additional study.

“Council asked that we get traffic counts on Pinnock Street as well as that portion on Wall Street so we have a full picture of the traffic going through that area,” Morrison said. “It was also brought up the possibility of doing a realignment if Pinnock and Wall Street were closed what could that look like.”

Morrison said the original traffic study only looked at traffic counts on Wall Street. He said even those numbers could have been skewed because the study was conducted during high-traffic events like the Quilt Festival and Easter.

Morrison said they will collect the data over the next month and provide it to the council at the next meeting. However, he said a decision could take longer than that.
