The city of Algood will begin advertising the police chief position Friday.
MTAS will evaluate the applications and pick three finalist for the city council to select from. Mayor Scott Bilbrey said he’s looking for a candidate that can handle a budget that totals almost $1 million.
“When your dealing with that type of money it’s very important that you don’t just have law enforcement,” Bilbrey said. “You have to be a manager to be able to manage that department and that type of money. Also, we want someone with leadership experience and skill and someone that will never rise above their leadership.”
The person selected will be replacing former chief Gary Harris. Harris was fired in March and Captain Bryant Swallows has served as the interim police chief.
The police chief position will be advertised until October 15th.
Applications for the police chief position will be posted to the city of Algood’s website and the Municipal Technical Advisory Service’s website.
