The City of Algood has applied for a $50,000 non-matching grant through the Tennessee Department of Health.
Mayor Kirk Dyer said if approved the grant would help come up with a master plan for the town’s future 22 acre park, which will be located off Main Street just before Thompson Lane.
“I would love to see an actual master plan in detail concerning each particular phase that we want to build the park in,” Dyer said. “That way moving forward there is no question about what needs to be done next in the step-by-step procedures.”
Once the city has a master plan they will apply for a local parks and recreation grant that would fund specific features within the city’s park.
The city had an option to apply for the local parks and recreation grant this week, but chose to wait until they had a master plan in place for the park.
“It’s my opinion that we are not ready for that without a fully developed master plan for the park,” City Administrator Keith Morrison said. “With the master plan, we can detail what the phases are and what we think it will cost and ensure that we are completing the project with the best use of our funds.”
