The Algood City Council voted Tuesday night to apply for a Community Development Block Grant.
If approved, the grant funding would be used for housing rehabilitation projects around town.
“Speaking from years past, We have been able to accomplish this and helped quite a few folks,” Mayor Kirk Dyer said. “This is definitely a fantastic thing and I would love to be able to get it every year if we could.”
Algood received the same grant several years ago and was able to rehabilitate multiple houses on College Street. Last year, the city was denied the grant.
“We missed the granting by two points last year,” City Administrator Keith Morrison said. “We are hoping to submit this application again and hopefully be successful in helping some folks with their homes and bringing them up to code.”
The maximum grant funding amount is $500,000 and it would require no match from the city.
