Algood Police Department Reminding Folks To Lock Their Vehicles

Recent car break-ins in surrounding cities have the Algood Police Department reminding citizens to lock their vehicles.

Chief Dale Armour said that while locking your vehicle might not fully prevent theft, it can make it hard to accomplish for would-be thieves.

“I mean sure if they can smash and grab any time but one of the first things is if you can put your things in the trunk or move it to someplace where they can’t see it,” Armour said. “And so if somebody does walk by, it doesn’t invite them to do anything else to your car.”

Armour said he suggests looking at your vehicle from the perspective of someone with ill intent. He said if you can look at it from that angle, you can find other ways to better protect your vehicle and the valuables inside.

Armour said a new issue that is trending comes from vehicles that have automatic keys. He said folks can accidentally unlock their vehicles without realizing it just from walking next to their cars.
