Algood Police Department still investigating after discovering a decomposing body at an apartment complex Thursday.
Police Chief Dale Armour said the body was originally discovered by workers performing routine maintenance and pest control at all of the apartments. He said the best they can determine, the body had been decomposing in a chair for almost two weeks.
“The body was so badly decomposed we couldn’t do any type of facial identification,” Armour said. “We wound up sending him to a forensic medical facility in Nashville for an autopsy. This may be related, MAY be related, to an ongoing missing person’s case.”
Armour said the family of that missing person had been notified. He said they have asked the family for dental records and other items to help with identifying the body.
Armour said the autopsy results could take longer than normal.
“The biggest issue is due to the bad state of decomposition it’s going to take forensic medicine a while to do what they usually do,” Armour said. “As some might know, autopsy reports usually come back in months not in days so we’re on a holding pattern right now until they contact us back.”
Armour said at this point, they do not suspect foul play.
