Algood Police Department confirmed the identification of the decomposed body found in an apartment complex last week.
Police Chief Dale Armour said the body was that of Michael Peek, an Algood man missing since March 17th. Armour said a cause of death is yet to be determined.
“We talked to the family at the scene,” Armour said. “We told them we wouldn’t say that it was him but we asked them to start pulling medical records and dental records and then forensic medicine reached out. So they did a little bit of the leg work to help Forensic Medicine and provide them with the information they needed to confirm who he was.”
Armour said the identification closes the missing person case. He said the family has been notified of the identity confirmation.
Armour said they will now wait for official results from the autopsy and toxicology reports for cause of death.
