Algood Park Fireworks Show and Live Music Saturday

Algood will celebrate the 4th of July with its annual fireworks show Saturday.

Parks and Recreation Director Roy Phipps said the fireworks cap off the event at 9 pm, but there will be activities beginning at 5. He said the event is by far the biggest of the year for both the local government and the community.

“For us, it’s a chance to give back, a lot of people pay taxes, a lot of people pay property taxes and they come over and they shop here and they support our local businesses and stuff,” Phipps said. “And we really appreciate this and this is a way for the city to say thank you.”

Phipps said the event will feature a variety of different food vendors, live music from the Tennessee Outlaw Band, a dunk tank, bounce houses, and a train giving rides around the park. He said the Tennessee Highway Patrol will also be at the event with a crash simulator to educate people on vehicle safety.

Phipps said the fireworks will be visible throughout the town, but the park will be the best vantage point.

“If you’re at the park, at the football field, you’re actually on site, you get to see everything,” Phipps said. “They’ll be a lot of people hanging around Hope Church, and people are welcomed to park at City Hall, but the closest you can get to the park, the better off you are.”

Phipps said the City is prepared for the possibility of inclement weather, He said they are closely monitoring the situation and have plans in place to keep everyone safe in the event of severe weather.

“We can allow people into City Hall as a shelter, we do have some plans to direct people,” Phipps said. “I would just encourage everybody to watch the weather and be weather aware. We aren’t going to let a little bit of rain stop us.”

Phipps said any announcements regarding weather will be made on the City’s social media pages, and on the radio.
