Algood Middle Entryway Project Requiring More Fire Protection

The Algood Middle School entryway project will require additional work to meet Putnam County Fire Marshall requirements.

Deputy Director Tim Martin said plans checked out on paper but an onsite inspection determined a more substantial fire break wall and metal doors for the office were needed. Martin said that luckily contingency funds were set aside to complete the project.

“Where we’ve got the glass there for the receptionist, we’re going to have to put a drop down metal door,” Martin said. “That if the fire alarm goes off that metal door will drop down over that glass window.”

Martin said the system believes transferring roughly $6,800 towards the project will cover costs. He said the only concern is about getting the metal materials for the drop down door.

“I really hope that we’re finished before Christmas,” Martin said. “I mean if you spoke to me before, I would have told you that I hope we were finished before school started this year. So right now, the way it is with getting materials, things are just taking a long time.”

Martin said this project is being funded by a school safety grant.
