The city of Algood has a new police chief.
The city council voted unanimously Tuesday night to select Tennessee Bureau of Investigation special agent Dale Armour to serve as Algood’s new police chief.
Armour, who is from the Murfreesboro area, said he’s always had a desire to live in the Upper Cumberland and looks forward to leading the department.
“I’m excited about it and I also want to thank the city council for the opportunity to serve, but I also look forward to working with the men and women of the police department and getting to know the community,” Armour said.
Armour has spent 38-years working in law enforcement and recently managed 24 counties in drug enforcement across Tennessee. He said he understands the challenges that come with running a small department.
“My job for the last 30-years was to assist local agencies. We were the guys that came in when something bad was going on and they didn’t have assets or resources,” Armour said. “I will be yelling for help from some of the friends of mine in law enforcement across the state. It’s a small department and we are going to have some issues with assets, but I know where to go to get those.”
Armour is the cities first permanent police chief in nearly a year. In March, the city terminated former chief Garry Harris. Captain Bryant Swallows has served as interim chief since the city fired Harris.
Armour said he hopes his first day on the job will be in about two weeks.
