The Algood Farmer’s Market is now open and accepting permit requests from vendors.
Algood City Administrator Keith Morrrison said the city wants to start generating community interest in the market, even though construction is still ongoing.
“We thought we would go ahead and let them setup and get selling. That way there would be some activity there, “Morrison said. “We will complete the structure, move it in there and fire it up full speed ahead.”
Morrison said the city is currently looking for five vendors to start out. The project is expected be completed by this fall.
“At this point, we need to put the roof on, put in lighting, finish the restroom and maintenance closet and pave the parking lot,” Morrison said. “We have already purchased some of the materials we need, and we are getting ready to order some more.”
Permit applications are available at the Algood City Hall. Morrison said the market is across city hall on the opposite corner next to the railroad tracks. There is currently a concrete paid and a single building at the market location.
“We are going to try and finish it ourselves,” Morrison said. “There have been several issues with it that have held it back. When the Covid-19 hit, that really delayed it big time.”
Morrison said bids came in high for construction and a agreement with a local contractor fell through, so Algood took over the project.
