Algood City Council is expected to table awarding bids for a proposed farmers market after only receiving one bid for the project.
Matthew Tucker is a consultant with James C. Hailey & Co. Consultant Engineers in Nashville. He predicts the earliest a structure could be built is by December.
“The way I’m bidding it, the base bid is [for] a wood structure,” Tucker said. “We’re also doing an alternate for a metal frame building. From a time standpoint, if we do wood… won’t be a terrible lead, probably be 20 days. Depending on what it takes to get it erected and get the grading done, you’d probably be ready the first of December.”
Tucker said once constructed, the farmers market should be ready in the spring whether its metal or wood.
“With a metal building, it probably would still be, worst case, March or April,” Tucker said. “Should be ready for the start of next season. You just may not get to do much with it through the fall here. At the very least, you’ll just be waiting on asphalt next spring.”
Council and city officials discussed the farmers market bids during Monday’s work session ahead of Tuesday’s council meeting.
