The Algood City Council approved an ordinance to provide a $500 one-time bonus for front line city employees who worked through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council approved the ordinance 4-1 with Mayor Lisa Chapman-Fowler voting against the payment. Chapman-Fowler said the bonus is non budgeted. The total expense will be over $23,000.
The ordinance will now go before a public hearing September 8 before a second reading.
This is the second time the payment came before the council. Council members voted it down last month. Council Member Bill Bilbrey requested the item be considered again.
