The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Board meets Tuesday to discuss a project to widen and repave Airport Road.
Airport Manager Dean Selby said the board will consider transferring airport property to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
“The intergovernmental agreement requires that all four associated governments approve the transfer before we can proceed with it,” Selby said. “It’s just a small 1,500 square feet that they need for this road project.”
Selby said the need for the project is primarily due to recent growth in the area. He said a wider road will benefit trucks going to the new Hormann facility.
“The Hormann manufacturing, as they start running trucks in and out of there, the road cannot handle the additional traffic,” Selby said. “Plus, the intersection out there is an accident waiting to happen. They are going to redo that whole intersection.”
In addition to widening the roadway, Selby said TDOT’ will repave Airport Road all the way to the airport entrance and fix Technology Drive leading to Fitzgerald Truck Parts.
The airport board meets Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
