Van Buren HS Academic Accomplishments

Van Buren High School’s graduation rate last year was five percent above the state average with a 95 percent of seniors graduating.

Director of Schools Cheryl Cole said the high-rate is a testament of the great faculty in the system.

“We are more like a family here at both schools, the elementary and high school,” Cole said. “Everybody knows everybody, and if somebody is not here, then somebody is going to be checking on them. We are just family.”

Van Buren High School was also the first school in middle Tennessee to have a student complete the SAILS program this year. The program allows seniors to earn their high school math credit while eliminating the need for developmental courses in college.

The average ACT score for the school last year was just under a 17. Cole said the scores would have been higher if the pandemic did not cancel the retake option in the spring.
