Veterans Memorial Wall Coming To Putnam County In April

A 250-foot replica of Washington D.C.’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall will be coming to Cookeville next year.

It’s called the Wall That Heals, which annually travels to communities across the country.

Putnam County Veterans Service officer Mark Harris said Putnam County is one of 38 cities nationwide and the only one in Tennessee to host the mobile exhibit.

“This seemed like a natural because we honor veterans and the Run for the Wall that comes around every year,” Harris said. “A lot of us, our hearts go with them and we wish we could be there with them. What better way, if we can’t be there physically, than to see the Wall That Heals,”

“There are a lot of our veterans and citizens that may never have the opportunity to visit the actual wall in Washington D.C., so this brings the wall to you,” Putnam County Executive Randy Porter said.

Harris said the Wall That Heals will be in Putnam County from April 18th through April 22nd. The mobile version of the wall was created to give veterans who can’t make the trip to Washington D.C. a chance to see the memorial.
