Governor Bill Haslam’s administration has received the green light from the State Building Commission to rebuild the guest lodging at Fall Creek Falls State Park.
With approval, the state has now eliminated previous plans to conduct a major renovation of the park’s main inn.
Van Buren County officials have previously expressed concerns about job guarantees for the state workers and loss of tax revenue over the estimated two years of construction to rebuild the facility .
“We understand the bridge time during construction will potentially do that, but we are going to work with them to recognize the impact in the short term that that will have on Van Buren County,” Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau said at the state building commission’s November 9th meeting.
Van Buren County officials could not be reached for comment today.
