Putnam County Officials Warn Of Fundraising Scam

Several Putnam County citizens have reported receiving phone calls from someone conducting a fundraiser for the county’s fire department.

County Executive Randy Porter said it’s a scam.

“Our county fire department doesn’t make calls asking for donations,” Porter said. “We realized it was a scam and we just want our residents to get the caller i.d. number if they receive a call and immediately report it to our sheriff’s office.”

Porter said the fire department doesn’t even do fundraisers anymore.

Several other residents also said the scammer is posing as a representative with the rescue squad and county EMS.

Porter said EMS has never done fundraisers and that the rescue squad conducts their annual fundraiser through the mail.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office phone number is 931-528-8484.
