Suspect In Custody Following Pursuit Near Baxter Primary School

The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Putnam County authorities have arrested at least one person following a high speed pursuit that ended near Baxter Primary School today.

According to a statement from the Putnam County School System, Baxter Primary School was placed on lockdown because of the incident around 2:30 p.m.

School officials said the lockdown was lifted at around 2:45 p.m.

“Everything is back to normal and everybody is safe,” Baxter Police Chief Danny Holmes said. “I commend the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Baxter Police Department for taking this subject into custody and making sure our area is safe.”

The school system’s statement said a person reported hearing what they presumed was a shot being fired during the incident. Authorities confirmed that there were no shots fired during the incident at any time.

Officials said all staff members and students were safe during the entire situation.
