Official Groundbreaking Held For Cookeville’s Shoppes At Eagle Point

Cookeville and Putnam County officials broke ground on one of the city’s most highly anticipated projects Tuesday.

The 240,000 square foot Shoppe’s At Eagle Point development is now underway.

“Ground was broken about a month ago, but today was the official ceremony for Shoppes at Eagle’s Pointe,” Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton said. “After much perseverance, the stores will be open in the fall of 2018.”

Confirmed new stores as of today include Publix, Academy Sports, Ross, Panera Bread, Chipotle, Panda Express, Petsmart, Ulta and Shoe Carnival.

Cookeville City Councilman Jim Woodford said he’s excited about the sales tax that the future retail development will bring in.

“As a result of the sales tax that Cookeville generates, it allows the people to have a lower property tax rate than they would if we were’t a regional retail center,” Woodford said. “I’ve heard as much as 25-percent lower than what we provide for services and what our citizens pay for those services.”

Shoppes at Eagle Point will be located off Interstate Drive and Walnut Avenue.
