A Clay County man appeared in court today to be sentenced for his conviction of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse.
A 12-member jury convicted Edward Walsh in August of murdering 37-year-old Melisha Mosier and later dismembering her body.
District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway said a judge sentenced Walsh to serve two years for abuse of a corpse and life in prison for the first-degree premeditated murder conviction.
“In Tennessee a life sentence means that you are not eligible for parole until you serve 51 calendar years,” Dunaway said. “In this case, the defendant is 58-years-old and he won’t be eligible for parole until 51-years passes, which will likely be the rest of his natural life.”
During the trial in August, it took the 12-member jury less than five hours to find Walsh guilty on both counts.
