A longtime Cookeville business will be going away soon.
A Representative with Cookeville’s Sears store announced today that the store would be closing after failing to reach an agreement with it’s lease at Jackson Plaza.
Sales Representative Terry Randolph said it’s a sad day because many of the store employees have worked at the store since it first opened in 1998.
“We consider ourselves family here and we do not have a lot of turn over,” Randolph said. “We do appreciate all of Cookeville and the surrounding counties for their support to our store throughout the years. We hope they do continue to support us throughout the holiday season.”
Randolph said the store will be open throughout the holidays and will close by late winter or early spring of 2018.
Last week, Sears Holdings announced that 45 Kmart and 18 Sears stores would be closing nationwide, including Cookeville’s Kmart. Randolph said today’s announcement had nothing to do with last week’s announcement.
“The issue with Kmart closing is in no way related to our store closing,” Randolph said. “We have been in negotiations about our lease for a while, but we were not able to come to an agreement.”
