Two water rescues occurred in Cumberland County this morning after a line of heavy rains moved through the area overnight.
Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency Director Rick Williams said crews had to rescue one driver who got swept away on Clint Lowe Road and another driver on Spruce Loop Road.
“Everything happened within a couple hours. Flash flooding hit pretty hard,” Williams said. “About five inches of rain between midnight and 5:00 a.m.”
As of 9:30 a.m. Williams said water was starting to recede in some areas, but he encouraged drivers to pay attention to their surroundings and to turn around if they see water covering a roadway.
The overnight flash flooding has resulted in at least 15 roads being closed in the county.
