Pickett County received a $231,000 grant yesterday from the State Department of Environment and Conservation.
County Executive Richard Daniel said the grant will help enhance a recycling program the county started about two years ago.
“This grant will enable us to buy new equipment and enable us to process more recyclable material,” Daniel said. “That means it will cost the people of the county less to dispose of the solid waste that we have.”
Daniel said the grant may allow the county to come up with a way to address used tires that are coming in the convenience center.
Daniel said the grant money should be ready to use right away.
