For the third time this year the Putnam County Commission will be tasked with filling a vacant commission seat.
6th District Commissioner Reggie Shanks passed away Tuesday. Putnam County Executive Randy Porter said that seat will be filled by appointment.
“The County Commission has to appoint someone within 120-days if it’s between elections,” Porter said. “We got our next election in August of 2018, so they will be appointing someone to fill that position until then.”
Earlier this year the commission appointed Jimmy Neal to fill the vacancy left by Daryl Blair who resigned after being hired as Cookeville’s Fire Chief. Last month the commission appointed Bob Duncan to fill the 2nd District seat given up by Scott Stevens as parts of a plea agreement in a theft case.
