Sparta Police will soon have a new cruiser.
Chief Jeff Guth said a cruiser involved in a pursuit in April sustained significant damage.
“Insurance company totaled it out, they did let us take all the equipment out of it, so we’re able to use all the equipment off the old car into the new car,” Guth said.
The new cruiser will be purchased at the state contract price. Guth said it may arrive in early October.
The insurance company reimbursed the city nearly $10,000. The remainder of the cost, nearly $17,000, will come from the Sparta Police drug fund. The Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved the purchase.
