The Cookeville City Council will consider a rate increase for electric customers Thursday night.
The rate increase is needed to cover a 1.5 percent rate increase that the Tennessee valley Authority approved last month.
The electric department won’t be able to absorb the $550,000 impact from TVA’s increase.
If the council approves the rate increase it would mean an additional $1.50 on monthly electrical bills for the average residential electric customer.
Thursday’s meeting set for 5:30 p.m. inside City Hall.
