Cookeville Drivers Testing Center Offers CDL Tests

Commercial drivers can once again get their CDL in Cookeville.

Sen. Paul Bailey was among those at a ceremony reopening the Cookeville Driver Testing Center’s CDL testing Friday.

“This is going to help many, many people in the Upper Cumberland area for them to be able to come to the Cookeville location and take their pre-trip inspection as well as their driving test,” Bailey said.

Bailey’s been pushing for the center, and others like it across the state to offer complete CDL testing for years. About seven years ago, the state decided to move that testing to urban areas. Folks could take their written test in Cookeville, but had to travel to Nashville, Knoxville or Chattanooga to complete the testing process.

“By opening these centers up, we should have fewer scheduling issues, drivers should be able to go in and get their CDLs a lot quicker,” Bailey said.

Bailey said sometimes the scheduling had drivers waiting two or more weeks to take their test.
