A Cookeville High School student faces at least one criminal charge after posting an alleged threat on social media.
Putnam County Schools Director Jerry Boyd would only identify the student as an upperclassman. That student was arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department early Monday morning.
When our team was notified, or activated, in conjunction with the sheriff’s department, they managed the situation as quickly as possible,” Boyd said.
Boyd said students saw the post and notified school officials.
“Giving that information to school administrators and also law enforcement certainly helps us all take the quickest and most immediate response that we can to either, number one determine it’s not an actual threat, or number two if it is a potential threat to address it very quickly,” Boyd said.
Boyd said as soon as school staff was notified, the procedure to address the potential threat began.
